In May 2009, Acer introduced to the US market the widescreened Acer Aspire One AO751H netbook. With an 11.6 inch screen, some industry observers question if the AO751H is indeed a netbook. In recent years, sub-$500 netbooks became the trend in the computer market as inexpensive alternatives to thousand dollar laptops. To bring laptops to market with a sub-$500 tag price, some amenities of modern-day laptops had to be sacrificed. Hence, the use of lower grade CPUs, slower memories, smaller disk space, and, what many considers to be the salient defining feature of netbooks, smaller screens.
This time around, Acer pushes the envelope to provide a netbook that is "unconventional" in its features, yet maintain the "chiciness" of the trend. Take the Acer Aspire One AO751h-1545 for example. With 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 Processor, 1024MB DDR2 SDRAM Single Channel Memory, and 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM), this Acer netbook is powerful enough to run the resource-hog Photoshop in Windows XP.
Business professionals will appreciate the lightweight Acer AO751H. Despite the 11.6 inch screen, which is great for working, in only weighs 3 lbs at most. Very easy to carry around for professionals, students, and blogging travelers.
Speaking of work, it's never made more easier on a netbook with an 11.6 inch screen. It has an aspect ratio of 16:9 in high-definition. The resolution is at 1366 x 768 pixels. To top it off, the screen is a LED-backlit display technology which is 33% more energy efficient than standard CCFL LCD screens. This helps in battery life.
What I consider to be Acer Aspire One AO751H's best feature and defines its "chic" is the Multi-Gesture Touchpad. It's an improvement over the existing touch pad technology that can perform limited functions. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad let's you manuever around files and websites with motions more natural to you. So you could be swirling, flicking, or pinching at the screen and the new touchpad will accommodate you.
The MSRP for the Acer Aspire One AO751H is $350. Different configuration and options can increase or decrease that price. But this is way below the $500 mark for netbooks when they were first introduced.
